Platinum grill

Even if not perfect, that looks like a great catch to me. I do agree with Bruce that there are some problems, though, that can pose big obstacles. A badly rusted cabinet could prove costly or at least very labor intensive to fix. If this grill is for you to keep I might still tolerate some of that just to get such a special grill.

Bruce, yes sir. I took the box and manifold from my 3000 and put it on the "Budweiser". This is for the 00-01 Platinum C (Weber 4261001). https://www.ereplacementparts.com/w...tinum-grill-parts-c-193079_193087_193344.html
It was an easy swap, no mods needed and they both utilize the same burners (Weber 7506). And from the looks of it I should be able to take the 5 bar Platinum C box and manifold and put that on the 3000 frame and that one will be gifted to my brother. I suspect that the one that Jeff MA has and the one I got originally has the same frame but different fireboxes (13 bar vs. 5 bar). It seems as if Weber took the 13 bar firebox and made it into a 5 bar firebox for the early 2000s Platinum (and maybe Gold) and kept the same dimensions of the box to utilize the first gen. Summit frame.

Sam, that is good to know info. Thanks....just hope I can remember it a month from now. hahaha
Like I said, I don't know a lot about the Platinums. They are rare in the wild around here for some reason.

Yah, even if the cabinet part is badly rusted then I'd still get it and convert it to an open cart. The things that stand out about this grill (that I like) are the side burner, side tables and the first gen. Summit frame.

Yah, no worries Bruce. I tend gravitate towards the rare grills for some reason...now to find a Skyline...

Well, it came home with me. There is good and bad, but overall I think it's solid. I'll postt pictures when the weather is better and I have time to get a closer look at everything.

Something I didn't consider when I went to pick it up. The side tables are bigger! It's too big for my tiny car, and I drove home with the hatch partly open in pouring rain. I really need to get my truck going if I'm going to continue to do this.

Jason: Keep us posted on your progress with that grill. Can you post some photos of the grill, especially the inside of the cabinet.

Here are a few pictures for now.

Inside the cabinet,

The cook box, With extra grates, I think all stainless steel,

Some more,

I'll get better pictures later. This should give a decent idea of my starting point.

On another note, one of my neighbors mentioned he wants to buy a new grill. I told him if he could wait I may be able to help him. He walked over and saw the (what must look like a BBQ graveyard) things I have and said he wants to buy the Platinum I just brought home. I had to squash that for now because I am thinking this one may become my personal grill once I get it fixed up. Then I showed him the Q 300 under the cover and he got very interested. I guess I will see how that one turns out.

Jason,

That one looks very redeemable to me. From your pictures the inside mostly looks dirty and cobwebbed, not rusted out. Back then they used the wire rack for the bottom, and I think that helped with drainage and ventilation, reducing the rust problems. I sure don't blame you for wanting to keep it:o!

I have a feeling your backyard is starting to look like mine. I am trying to reform, but there are forever new temptations. I guess we all have to decide what the tipping point is for when you have to stop taking more in until others are sold.

Jason,

Here is a wise saying from LMichaels when I got my Genesis Platinum grill earlier this year...

"I would NEVER sell or let that grill outta my sight if I was you! You will regret it as long as you live"

Fix it and keep it as your personal grill/patio queen. As others have said that's a rare bird and an awesome find! There is another one similar to yours that's selling in my area and they are asking $225 for it. I'm also guessing you got the 13 bar firebox from looking at it...? If so then yours is probably about a late 90s model, similar to the one like JeffMA has.
