PK Grill Bottom Grate - Cheaper alternative.

I know there are a few PK grill owners out there so I thought I would post this. I picked one up this week to flip. The grill did not come with a charcoal grate and a new 304 SS one is $70. I purchased a set of 304 SS grates for a Weber 300 series off Amazon for $25. 10 minutes with an angle grinder and the grill now has a nice charcoal grate. Plus I still have 1 left as they came as a set. Link https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Z3961SW/?tag=tvwb-20

Looks really well made and built. Funny I find it very telling when Consumer Reports and or ATK tests charcoal grills they never seem to test this product and oddly Weber always wins. I don't think the kettle could beat this one.

If you like that one they are coming out with a "Special Addition" in 2022 I think.

The one thing I have never understood about these is why they open the way they do. I think it may be they are too narrow and if the lid opened normally they would be unstable. But it's the only logical thing I can see

This is the first one I have played with and the lid works great. Love the fact that it also just lifts off with no pins to rust in. The shape is very conducive to using it for low and slow. The guy I got if from used it as a smoker. I have watched a bunch of vids where people put a set of Grillgrates on it and use it for SCA contests to get those perfect looking grill marks. I personally like my whole steak to be crusted as I think marks are just for looks. It really is a well built, versatile grill. I can see why they have such a following, especially with the improvements and new models they have.

Joe, my neighbor has one all he uses it for is low and slow also. I rebuilt a performer for him that he uses up the lake for normal grilling.

I like it! It oozes quality. I'm sure it is one butt cooking machine! If a person is very limited on space and needs a charcoal grill and a small smoker, this is as good as I've seen. All that said, I'm sure glad I bought the new Performer for just a little less. Not sure how well this would be for slabs of ribs, a staple at my house. Clean out might also be a pita.
Thanks @Joe Anshien for including That video. Very interesting.
