Penzey's Rub Clones

Over a thousand views and not one reply??

Well I'll try them Len cause I never bought the rubs, and if I like them I'll let you know..
Thanks'!

I always like making my own instead of buying commercial. That way, if I don't care for them, it's only a 20c mistake :)

Great post! I often make my own, but will typically use information like this and then tweak it until I get something I like!

Thanks for sharing, never seen these ones before.

Thanks for posting Len. I never tried penzeys but if it's good it's good.
Hopefully someone that bought penzeys can say if it's about the same or not even close.

Len and Tony...

Not even close. Neither is their Chico Rub.
For the Summer Blaze, they are totally missing the central note of Penzeys' BBQ 3000.
They are not even a cheap imposter.

You're will need to try the Penzeys Spices rubs to find out for yourself...
... and no, I don't work for them ... lol

Penzeys spices are excellent, although I normally just buy individual spices rather than combinations.

Complete list
salt
paprika
black pepper
nutmeg
mustard
allspice
garlic powder
ginger
sage
thyme
white pepper
cinnamon
smoke flavoring
I find it to be very overpowering and just use it as an ingredient in other rubs etc for extra flavor., Ken

Great addition Ken. Now someone can experiment and match it to the original. As said, I can't because we don't get the original up here.

Tks.

Len, I love Penzeys spices and I have an actual Penzeys Spice Store within driving distance. I read rave reviews about the BBQ 3000 and bought two large bags of it on everyone else's reviews. Like I said it's not for me on it's own and I find it to be very strong. Once I use it up by mixing it with other dry rubs I wont be purchasing the blend again. I will however continue to buy some of their other mixes and individual spices. There are two my wife really enjoys. She loves Northwoods and something with Paris in the title. The one with Paris in the title was confiscated out of our spice cabinet when her parents visited from S.C. They liked it so much we told them we would send them one. They decided to just take our opened one home lol, Ken

Penzey's gives away their ingredients (but not the ratios) on their web site if you don't get their catalog. If you know the name of the rub you would like to duplicate, use their drop-down menu to find it. There you will get a description of the rub followed by the list of ingredients...usually listed from the highest to the lowest amounts. It's a starting point at any rate....

Hope this helps!
