I weighed lids from two 22.5 inch kettles.
My 2009 OTG lid weighed 5 lbs. 12 oz. (plastic handle)
The lid from my old blue Bar-B-Q-Kettle weighed 6 lbs. 3 oz. (wood handle)
Both pretty much free of gunk.

The metal on the very edge of the newer lid is visibly a little thinner.

I feel that, with care, the new ones will last just as long as the older ones.

Manufacturing processes are a bit different now verus then so that is part of it, but I am with you if you take care of a newer one they will last like a older version. Just like a car, or house.Good info thanks for sharing.
