Ok I give up.....I have tried every trick in the book.....I give up....how to put a shine on Genesis 300 series doors????

I just used the Rustoleum 2X Clear and it was pretty good stuff. Its only been a short time so the jury is still out whether it will hold up in direct sunlight.

Thanks for the info guys. I polished the doors with Maguires cleaner wax and just moved on. Sold the grill for $325. I will try the clear coat and or the painting trick once I find one that has really bad doors or a donor grill.

Jim, I'm not very familiar with those grills but I have seen them with painted and stainless steel doors. Are the doors all stainless and the middle is just painted on some of them? If that's the case I would just strip the paint off them and shine them up.

Hey Steve. I have included a pic of the model I am talking about. See below

I guess my dumb question is what material the doors are made out of? Some of those grills have stainless steel doors and some have painted doors to match the color of the lid. Are they the same door? Did they paint some and use a stainless insert on the others? I'm just thinking out loud trying to help you come up with a solution.

Well they used the same doors on the model 300 series after this one as well. Yes some had stainless inserts and some had painted inserts to match the hood color. If you aggressively scrub a dirty door with a micro fiber towel and a simple green mix it will scratch these doors. I guess years of sun have broken down the hard finish of this paint or the clear coat that they used and it is a soft finish now. I actually do not think they used any clear coat at all. You can wet the finish for a nice look but it just doesnt last....example WD40 or your favorite tire dressing.....or maybe even 303 aerospace.

I would be worried that buffing compound would strip that paint. It isn't as hard as automotive paint. I would either try to find some donor grill doors (pretty easy in black) or I would simply repaint them with some Rustoleum 2X black semi gloss or full gloss.
I would never use rubbing compound, I like Meguirs so I wash off thecdirt rinse, a auto detailing guy I clay the painted surfaces, then dry, use a orbital buffer at about 1300 rpm and Megs 105 cleaner compound, wipe off, and use 205 polish and wipe off, last coat with Megs M21 synthetic wax that way it will last most carnuba wax melt off in direct sun and higher heat.

Will try a repaint and or a clear coat the next time I come across a bad set. Thanks for the replies guys I appreciate it.

I'll be repainting a set soon. Currently copper, going to black. I'll be masking the chrome to retain the original look.

So does your method bring out a rich looking shine Kevin?
Yes it brings out a deep shine and it lasts. I do the same on my truck here in NAZ and it lasts about 12 to 15 months as you can see from the attached photos.

Hey Kevin, I'm not sure I'm following all the replies. Can you please help me understand?

are you applying this to 300 series doors or enamel lids like the one in your pics?

I used this on my sun bleach Silver C black that attached a photo of sitting in the sunshine. I did that well over a year ago.
