Oak Stakes

My father-in-law gave me a large bundle of unused oak yard stakes. The kind used for surveying, silt fences, etc. They'd be perfect to cut into chunks for smoke wood. As far as I can tell they are not pressure treated or otherwise altered. Is there anyway to tell for sure?

Ryan, You just never know? I wouldn't chance it. I'll be getting a huge pile of White Oak soon. I'll give you some.

Highly unlikely there is anything wrong with them, HOWEVER there is a chance and it's just not worth the risk. There are so many ways to get wood (like a good neighbor - Bryan) that you know is safe that it's just better not to take any chances. You'll never regret not using the wood but you might regret using it.
