No More Rainwater

Owners of older WSMs have complained about rainwater collecting in the base, even with the plastic cover on. If you flip the center section upside down for storage, the lid now fits over the center section, which now fits over the base. Rainwater now just runs off. You can still use the cover and store the pan and grates inside.

or if you're lazy like me, slide a large plastic trash can bag over the WSM then your Weber WSM cover over it.

I use a large 60 gallon 4 mil barrel bag. Works terrific.

Jim, I think the reason that the Weber cover "breathes" is so that the funky, nasty mold is less likely to grow inside the covered cooker. I noticed it if I haven't used the cooker for a couple of months. like over the dead of winter. Now I just leave all the vents open and don't use the cover.

Good point JHasselberger, however, my cookers rarely sit more than one week year round.
I did say i'm lazy, not idle :)

A tip o' my Flyers cap to you, especially considering your location. I usually shut down from Christmas to about the beginning of March. Come to think of it, so do the Flyers.

Why didn't they make the center section and the top fit that way for cooking, like with the 22 kettle grill? The top on my kettle goes over the bottom half so you don't get water in, or melted snow in the winter.

My understanding is that the lid sits "inside" the middle section so that the steam and moisture that collects at the top of the dome doesn't leak down the outside of your cooker making a big mess around your cooker. I could be wrong, but it makes sense to me.
