Newbie here with question about rust/paint gone around access door

Just got my Weber SM and have cooked on it approx 7 or 8 times. I was hoping the outside would continue to look nice for years (perfectionist here), but I guess the charcoal got hot and impacted the black color around the access door. I can post a pic if necessary. This is right above the access door so
I suppose heat caused it. Is this normal? It's an area with faded paint and a hint of brown.

Thanks much,
Darren

Did you use water in the pan? If so, it's probably not rust - just residue from a leak point. It should clean up. If not, Weber has the best warranty in the business. (10 yr rust)

I seriously doubt there's anything with your paint, and as Dwaine pointed out, it's not rust. The brown stuff is a strange occurrence that only happens when there's a LOT of moisture in the cooker, usually only when there's water in the pan. Just keep tabs on the buildup in the dome between cooks so that you don't have residue flaking off on your meat in a long cook. Not hardly an issue if you don't use water, but anyhow, it doesn't have to stay spotless. It's a smoker, and is gonna be hard to keep it looking brand new and shiny anywhere smoke leaks.
