Hello everyone from the Kansas City Area!

Just had my first cook with the WSM. I got it used from Facebook Marketplace for $75 a month ago and have been doing cleanup and mods on it since. Finally got to try it out for the first time. Been cooking on a drum smoker that I built for the past 6 years (love it) but I have always wanted to try out a WSM. I figured if nothing else it will be nice to have an extra cooker during holiday cooks :)

I added several things to this, Hinge that I got from Marketplace for $25, a Hunsaker vortex basket and stainless steel grate, Cajun Bandit Door, Gaskets, Fan Adapter for my fan and Fireboard 2 Drive, and other little odds and ends.

First cook went pretty good, looking forward to more! Went simple this time just to get a feel for it, so I fired it up, loaded the basket up as full as I could get it and set it up to run 300 degrees. Worked like a champ. It ran 9 straight hours, even stuck some chicken on it for lunch and again for dinner. The only thing that really surprised me during this test run was how quickly the temps can spike when lifting the lid, it settles back in but on my drum smoker the temps hold a little better when opening the lid, but still this was controllable just takes a little while for the temp to settle back in. Finally shut it down and cleaned up to put away and it still probably had at least another hour or more left of fuel in it. Will be interesting to see how it does for lower temps and see how the fuel lasts for those long cooks.

Appreciate all the info on here, thanks, it helped me a lot setting this up!
