New House Sauce?

Happened across an article comparing 13 top selling barbeque sauces and was amazed to see that Great Value (Walmart brand) Original won out over the rest of them. Since we do a lot of our grocery shopping at Walmart, decided to try it. This is a sweet and smoky sauce that, IMO, beats out a lot of the brands I've tried in the past and, except for the lack of heat, it's very like my house sauce that I've been making for 15+ years. At $1.34 for an 18 oz. bottle, it's cheaper than making mine too. All I need to do is sprinkle a little cayenne on the meat when saucing and I doubt there will be a noticeable difference. Trying it out this weekend.

I will try this - sounds like it's right up my alley. Sweet and smoky is exactly what I prefer and I won't miss the heat at all.
And like you said, it's cheaper than the sauce I make, too.

I'm glad you posted this. I just happened to smoke a butt this weekend, so I picked up a bottle last night.
I'm having a pulled pork sandwich with this sauce for lunch - I like it!

I think it will work just fine for when I don't have the time or just don't want to make my own sauce.
I doubt I ever would have tried it, if not for your post.

I'll try it too. Usually every time I cook a brisket or butt I'll bring home a bottle of some kind of different sauce from the store just to try....... And most of them are not even good and I throw them out.... Then there's some vinegary ones that I do like that are different from my own that are a nice change of pace.

My old standby that my dad used for a base and that I will mix in with my own sometimes to extend it when I am running low is cattlemen's. I pretty much have to order it off of Amazon today because nobody seems to carry it. Occasionally Walmart has a few small bottles.

As a connoisseur of cheap BBQ sauce myself, I have enjoyed a few bottles of great value from Walmart. Another favorite of mine is Burman's from Aldi. It comes in three different varieties and is $1.25 for an 18oz. bottle, although it was 99 cents forever. If you like sweet baby ray's, you will like this.Screenshot_20220818-153512_Chrome.jpg

Vinegar can turn a meh sauce into something enjoyable. it does a great job of balancing sweetness.
