New 4.0. No IP address.

When the rPi gets the ip it should show the IP on the HM display if things are working properly. If you are able to connect to the rPi via ssh on that IP then you have verified that the rPi is actually connected and accessible on that IP, so from another computer connected to that router having an IP assigned from that same block you should be able to connect to the HM by putting that IP into your browser (try several browsers), from outside that router you would need to port forward port 80 to the IP that the rPi is using.

That said, it seems there may be an issue with your rPi communicating with your HM board, cause the IP SHOULD APPEAR on the HM screen when the rPi is assigned the IP.

Try powering down the HM (and rPi), pull out the wireless adapter, connect a LAN cable from the rPi to the router, boot the HM + rPi and watch the HM display to see if an IP shows... If so, try connecting to that IP from your computer. If the HM page still doesn't load and the computer is connected via WiFi then try dropping the wifi connection on the computer and use a LAN cable to connect the computer to the same router as the HM. If the HM page loads now you prob have some security/setting/issue in your wifi router causing the issue, if the HM still doesn't load then perhaps you have an issue with your HM board or HM to rPi link.

I use the Fing app on my iPhone to show me the connected devices on my network. Tonight the pi is at 192.168.1.8 . On my macbook pro, I can then use the terminal to ssh pi@192.168.1.8 , then enter the RPi password, and I am "in" to the Pi.

And just to be clear, you're not using that SD card with raspbian on it when you connect the HM board to the rPi? You need to have the HeaterMeter image on the SD card for it to work properly.

Checked all my HM solder joints that I could get to. Connected to router with ethernet, no wifi, then plugged in to power. Waited 2 minutes and no IP address showed up but the lights on my router and the rPi flash.

Turned off wifi to my macbook pro and connected it directly to my router. Booted rPi/HM with wifi. Was able to ssh from macbook to rPi.

Is there a specific part on the HM that I should check or replace?

Steve, I have been using the raspbian image. Crap. Going back downstairs to check that. Need more wine.

Steve wins the prize for figuring this one out. There may have been some underlying solder issues even after I replaced the first rPi, but the latest reason for my HM's failure to communicate was that I was still using the raspbian image card vs the openwrt image. "Thank you" sounds very inadequate.

Have now worked my way through the configuration described on the wiki page. Now I just need to get the ice and snow off of my bge!
