New 18.5"...mat question

Hello!

The new-to-me 18.5" arrived yesterday! I have my ET-733, my Weber Chimney...but I am curious about some kind of mat/base. I will be using the WSM on a concrete patio, but it's a stamped and dyed patio so I don't want to mess it up.

I have concrete backer board and ceramic tiles at my disposal...could I fab up a base out of those materials, or do I have to use one of the store bought bbq mats?

Thanks!!

I use an oil drip pan from my local auto parts store. It is a rectangular shape that I set it on and there is just enough room to set the lid or middle section on next to it when you need to light coals or put food on. The pan was between $10 and $15. I just store it behind a deck box on my patio when not in use.

Whatever you use make sure you pick it up off the patio when your done so it doesn't trap water underneath and stain your deck.

Another vote for the drip pan. I like that it's large enough to set the lid on when you need to take the lid off the WSM. I actually set my lid on the lip of the pan so it's barely touching anything when I set it down. Not a big deal, but if you don't, you'll have a ring from the lid. Still, better than the ring being on your patio.
