Never Forget

Today is National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

My dad was a survivor of the attack. He passed 10 years ago at 94 years old. For many years I dreaded his telling of old war stories that we'd heard countless times, but wish he were still around to tell them again. Let's remember the brave service members that answered the call. Not too many remain, but those who do are part of the greatest generation of Americans. God Bless them and all who have passed away.

My wife and I checked a major bucket list item this past summer as we were fortunate to visit Normandy, France and the D Day beaches.

My respect and admiration deepened even further on this trip for all our boys who served and gave their lives in bending the arc of history.

We didn’t ask for this war. But we showed up and defended freedom.

God bless all who serve and served. We can do everything we put our minds too.

Pearl Harbor is still on my list of places to experience.

Sadly a mere 24 years since the "modern" PH type attack, it seems we're forgetting and in a huge way. Sadly as well all the members of my family who were part of that Greatest Generation and or were also vets, are gone. The last of them being my dad who we lost back in April. My second oldest of the clan from dad's side (my cousin) reminding me of such at dad's funeral when she came up to me and said "you know this means we're the old guard now"

It was a somber sight each time our Destroyer Escort, DE-1026, passed by the USS Arizona the summer of '71. We usually tied up across from the submarine pens, next to the warehouse pier.

I’ve always felt the need to pay my respects to the crew of the Arizona and to all Americans that were there.
