Jeese, just when I need a set of solid rod SS grates for my rehab, I find the Uniflasy out of stock with no guarantee of when or if they will get more. Then looking at the Quilitmetal grates, they are up to $63.

I went with these. THey look to be identical to the Quilitmetal grates at 7mm and they state 304 stainless. But only $49 vs $63 for the Quilimetal. I will report back after I get them on Friday.

Maybe you are trying to avoid another “Bruce Effect” ;) but there isn’t any link.

LOL, not intentional, just the Alzheimers kicking in again.

Once I get them, I will post my thoughts. If I think they are quality and live up to their description, maybe Jason can add them to the Weber Parts Source sticky.

Just let me know if I should. If they are worth a darn (and stay available) I could use at least a couple of them for my projects I wish I could find time for.

Right Larry, but I have found that a lot of times these online sellers use a stock photo that they found on the internet instead of using a picture of their actual products. Like maybe the grates they are actually selling only have 14 rods per grate instead of 16 like the picture shows. That is why I only bought one to start with. I will need more.

Alright, I just received the new SS solid rod grates. I have to say they are as advertised. It was last year that I had a set of the Quilimetal 7mm grates but I have to say these are basically the same quality if not better. They are listed as 304 stainless and I get no response with the Magnet test. They fit the grill nice and snug, so they don't slide around when trying to clean them and they certainly don't want to drop down into the cookbox like the Uniflasy tended to do.

I would say get them if you need some for personal use or rehabs. At least as good as the 7mm Weber grates. They are not 9mm RCP grates, but at less than half the price, they are a bargain.

UPDATE: I just ordered three more sets.

In your experience, do these grates fit snugly on a clean ledger? Just me, but my pet-peeve is when I clean/brush my grates (while in the grill) I really dislike substantial movement of the grates. I have a set of Weber SS Grates that came with a rehab grill, and they could be a 1/4" longer.

Heavy cast iron grates don't seem to move much (my set is about TU), and I haven't sprung for the High Dollar RC Grates.

Thanks, KyleS

I just put new Uniflasy grates on the Gold resto project that I posted today. In the North South direction, there is a TOTAL gap of 1/4". On East West axis, with grates touching at center point, that TOTAL gap is 1/2" (i.e. 1/4" gap on each side).

Noted are the ends of the grate bars (north south) are roughly cut, almost sheared off by some monstrous machine. They must roll these out by the mile and chop away. QC not first priority.

But heavy feel, good welds, nicely packaged, the jury is still out for me, I like them. DISCLAIMER -> BUT I haven't cooked on them or held them over heat for any long period!

Uniflasy compared to Quilimetal are inferior. But, you get what you pay for. Both have 7mm rods which is good but uniflasy only have 13 rods per side where Quilitmental has 16 which results in a significantly larger gap on the Uniflasy. IMO, as TonyS Tbone says, they do fit a bit looser and are not quite as refined on the ends.

I definitely would buy Quilimetal over Uniflasy for personal use or if you are picky about a rehab/flip grill. But for a regular flip and maximizing profit, the uniflasy are hard to beat.

Qlimetal has been a good supporter of our site and I do think they put more emphasis on quality then most of the other import alternatives. Things like more bars per grate and rounded corners show an effort to go the extra mile that you don’t see in a lot of their competitors.
