Hi all, I just got my new Ashcroft industrial thermometer in the mail. I'd like to install it using the lock nut approach but I can't seem to find a nut to fit my thermometer. Nothing standard will fit it. Has anyone run into this problem?? A 7/8 nut is just too small, and a 1 inch too large. Could it be metric?

I guess I could screw it in......but I'm a little reluctant to do so......I don't want to drill something that large and run the risk of the thermometer being or getting loose....

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
John

I just went through this same search - I actually had to ASK somebody at the hardware store (man, I hate to do that). Now that I look at Chris's pictures in the instructions, I see that the NPT-threaded locknuts are, indeed, electrical hardware. Might be good to include that tidbit in the instructions (hint to Chris).

"You can buy the washer, lock nut, spray paint, and masking tape at a hardware store. If you'll be using the Unibit, buy a washer with a 3/4" hole in it; if using the knockout punch, buy a washer with a 1/2" hole in it. You'll find galvanized or zinc lock nuts in the electrical department; if this bothers you from a food safety standpoint, seek out a brass version."

I'll try to make this stand out more next time I update this page.

Regards,
Chris
