OK, second grill up for consideration: I am calling it my "brunette" - in a contrast to all those redhead fans out there. Hey, I like redheads, too, but I think brunettes are my favorite
.
I got this one from OfferUp just one town away, for a whopping $20, but it included a FULL tank of propane
. I think the seller made a mistake in not doing a quick spray paint on the firebox and hood sides, because this grill is actually REALLY NICE. The seller fired it right up, and with a little bit of work it would be ready as is.
THE GOOD:
Very nice overall condition with minimal rust on frame or parts.
Nice black hood with no obvious fade. Wood handle looks solid. The seller said he always kept this grill covered.
Almost brand new Weber classic style wheels
One of the brightest old-style control panels I have ever seen with nice classic knobs:
Came with very nice Weber 13 bar stainless flavorizers and my favorite - original uncoated cast iron grates with only minor surface rust:
(Putting the full tank of propane aside for a moment, this grill was worth more than $20 just for these bars and grates alone!)
Has nice slide-up side table with hardware that is very intact with minimal rust:
Even has a decent igniter - a fairly recent replacement:
THE BAD
Not much. It still has the old quick-connect style regulator. It looks like the tanks have been upgraded to the Overfill Protection valves. I had thought you couldn't even fill the ones with the quick connect, but the seller told me a local place he uses that does. One failing caster. (I have a bunch I bought on close-out from Ace.)
THE PLAN
I am sorely tempted to do just a quick clean and repaint to finally start moving inventory and test the market
. On the other hand, this one is so nice that it deserves to look its best. I have a couple things in front of it, so I have time to decide.
