Mold in my WSM

Has anyone else had issue with mold growing inside their WSM? It has happened to mine twice over the course of many years. I store it with a clean water pan, covered and vents open. It's easy to burn out but along with the mold goes my hard earned seasoning. What gives?!
 
Mine gets a little mold at times. I just rub it off with some white vinegar. I always let it go for 30-60 minutes until I get thin blue smoke smoke; so any remaining spores should be cooked off.
 
Yes. Get a scraper and scrape as much of the mold off the sides as you can. Then fire up the WSM and let the temp get as high as it can. Let it burn until it burns out naturally. Your WSM is ready and safe to cook on again. Have fun!
 
Don't store it dirty. Also, if you live in a humid area, covering the grills is really not the thing to do. Maybe a loose tarp but they need to breath.
