Mixing/prep bowls: Duralex vs Luminarc

This is a surprisingly difficult question to get information on...Google, Ecosia, and Bing all come up empty. I'm hoping some of you might have had experience with these things!

Background: It's time to get rid of our mis-mash of mixing/prep bowls, and we've decided on clear glass in a variety of sizes (from 4qt down.) We want to keep them from the same maker so they nest nicely.

Pyrex doesn't make anything we want, and we've had bad luck with Anchor Hocking, which leaves the two big makers: Duralex and Luminarc. We have no place locally where we can get hands-on with these brands, so (like most things) we're limited to mailorder.

I have two questions:

1. Any major differences in shape? It's hard to tell from pics that are taken at different angles; they look pretty close, but I've found small differences in profile can have big impacts on use.

2. Is either more durable (say, more resistant to edge chipping) than the other? Any thickness/weight difference?

Thanks for any insight you can give!

I have had some Luminarc pieces they are OK, I prefer stainless for most things much lighter and won’t break. Just my opinion.

I have a good set of Pyrex mixing bowls, and a SS set I bought from Costco several years ago. I hardly ever use the Pyrex bowls.

Have you considered just a good set of SS bowls? Relatively light, easy to clean, multifunctional, etc.

The thing is Grant does not want SS, so, he’s narrowed the field to the two above companies Duralex and Luminarc.
I’ve never heard of Duralex but, I’ve had some Luminarc so that would have to be my only realistic recommendation.
Honestly I do get the not liking one material over another but, I’ve had glass slip with disastrous results. Drop a SS bowl?a dent and stuff splashed all over creation but, not a bunch of broken shards of glass in the mix. Just me.

I'm not familiar with either of those two, but we've had a 10pc set of glass bowls from Williams-Sonoma that we've had for 15-20 years. I'd recommend them because they nest nicely and there are a ton of sizes. Not sure if this helpful or not, but thought I'd throw it out there.

I have both.... but TBH, I'm nearly always reaching for the SS first. Glass gets used for fermentation, though.

The stainless..... 15+ years ago, I'd headed back down to the Chicago area for a party, I was bring cole slaw stuff. I stopped at a restaurant supply, 8qt bowls for something lie $3.45/ea, and 10 (or 12?) qt for about a buck more. I have a pair of the 8qt and the larger bowls still, and haven't dented any of them. Yes, at that price, they are very thin, but at that price, I'm not sure I care.

Glass is for microwaving, pre-chilling the bowl, and seeing what's in there when it's in the fridge. I would go for a nesting set more than a brand name. Nesting doesn't even have to mean intended to nest, as long as it did. I don't see how the brand makes much difference.
