Maverick Remote Thermometer Question

My thoughtful wife picked up a remote sensing thermometer yesterday from the local Williams-Sonoma store. I was very excited because I had been thinking about getting one for overnight cooks. However, this particular model (manufactured by Maverick Industries but branded as Williams-Sonoma) doesn't have the min/max alarm capabilities that my Polder has. I noticed on Chris's Measuring Temperature page that there are other Maverick Models (2 probe). Before I went looking, I thought I would try to verify if the other model does have the min/max alarm capability.

I would appreciate any model numbers, retail sources, personal experiences with them, etc. Thanks!

The two probe Maverick model I show on the Web site does not have min/max capability. It alarms on max temperature only.

Regards,
Chris

Thanks for the info Chris. How about the Nu-Temps? It isn't real clear from their web site whether they have min/max alert either. I really like that feature, but my WSM location is too far from my bedroom to hear the beeps from the Polder.

I use the Maverick 2-probe unit.

You can set a separate max temp alarm for each probe -- either manually or from memory presets (beef medium, poultry, etc).

It also has two timers -- each can be set to count up total elapsed time or count down from a predetermined amount of time.

The unit works well and I'm quite pleased with it. Here's a nice feature: the standard probes are the same crappy 400 degree probes like the Polders that burn up if you look at them sideways. However, the replacement probes have much heavier wiring and a 500 degree rating.

Except for overnight cooks, the alarm functions aren't quite as important with a remote thermometer because you can just sit the unit next you and look at it from time to time.

Thanks for the info Webb. The one she got me is the one probe model. I'm not sure I need to do many overnight cooks, I just liked the idea of it. Of everything I've done so far, only the brisket and pork shoulder required more than 12 hours. I tend to get up early anyway (getting old), so maybe the Maverick two probe model is all I really need.

Do you know of any good sources for the two probe model?
