That's the reason I have a cage around my young blueberry bush.
 
Is white clover really bad for a lawn? I hate the red variety, but seems like I heard white clover has some benefits.

How is it on Creeping Charlie. It's the only thing SpeedZone seems to be falling down on the job with a little. Got some "yellowing" on some of the leaves but it sure ain't shriveling up like everything else did/is
My other issue is it seems you have to be more of a chemist to use Tenacity

According to those in the know it works great on Creeping Charlie, just takes some time. I have also heard great things about T-Zone as well.

Luckily my only issue is with Clover and Tenacity works great.
Any of the good lawn care products require mixing but even then once you do it a couple times it's second nature. Upfront cost seem high but a little goes a long way and last for several seasons.

This is the plan for my back yard ROCK! when we would visit our daughters in Tucson I was impressed by all the rock yards front and back. what kind of rock is best suited for this ?
 
I think of late there has been a marked decline in the cultivation and watering of grass etal. A lot of the golf courses are moving to desert landscape the to costs-I know several of our courses here in SCW are planning to remove large sections of "wasted" grass and convert. In my last house out here I had fake grass like Rich does. After a lifetime of doing the grass and leaf thing, I don't miss it at all-about as missed as snow removal!
 
I used to feel the same way Jeff, and had a 21" mower until the 60's approached-then I wanted riders, and then I didn't want to any more. Still like the smell of fresh cut grass though-yours looks great!

I would too if the town would let us water. Having an acre of lawn and no sprinkler system, trying to get it done before 9am or after 5pm, on just Mondays, doesn't cut it. My nice lawn looks like wheat now.

Larry, in the Phoenix area people flood their lawns that's what almost everyone does, if you use a sprinkler system it's so hot and dry in the summer almost all of it will evaporate before it can soak in. Those who are in charge specify when you can do the flooding to avoid as much of the evaporation as possible. The local paper will post how much water is needed to flood your lawn based on temperatures, humidity and amount of daylight.
Again I can't understand why anyone would have a grass lawn in Phoenix, but to each his own.

John, there are hundreds of different landscaping rocks and colors to chose from. Go to any nursery and they can point you to what's available in your area. Here in AZ we have company's that only deal in rock which makes the choice even easier.

There is a disadvantage to rocks at times. When theses two get to playing big time the rocks are flying and Dad gets to sweep them of the grass and out from under the grills on the patio.:mad:
 
We get our water from the next town over which gets it from the Westfield river. When the river, which isn't big, gets down to a certain flow they put restrictions in place. Westfield, the town we buy it from, can water 3 days a week, we're stuck with 1 day. Their water, their rules, I guess. Since we started buying form them it's been like this every summer. Get a week or 2 dry spell and the restrictions kick in till Sept. Previous to buying from Westfield we got it from the CT river via Springfield Water Dept. They were doubling the rates so the town changed, lucky us.

I think this is my last year for the lawn fertilizer service, 2 applications are to the wheat field.
 
Does your area allow the drilling of a well for non potable use? (outdoor use only) Some do. I have municipal water (from deep wells) and we rarely see restrictions
