maple wood smoke?

Wayne_R

TVWBB All-Star
Gonna be cooking a meatloaf and some abts in @ 2hrs. Thinking of doing big chunk of pecan and small of maple. Any opinions?

Smoked some cheese with maple last night and froze. Have not tried yet, but definitely a distinct smoke smell. Hope it is good.

Any suggestions or experiences with maple would be appreciated.

Thanks

Well Wayne, maple is excellent smoke wood... it's smoky, mellow and slighty sweet... terrific with pork, poultry, cheeses and small game birds.
And pecan (quickly becoming MY favourite), is also sweet and mild with a flavour much like hickory.
It is tasty with a subtle character... Great with beef, pork and poultry AND cheeses.
I think your plan is right on!
I'd go for some of that maple smoked cheese right now! butt i gotta go bowl now...
Hope your meatloaf and turds come out perfect!
Good Luck!!

Thumbs up on the maple...as a matter of fact, I did a meatloaf over maple recently, and the smoke was great.
Also, pecan is great, but I have an orchard with so much fruitwood, as well as 8 Maples on the property.

Results:

Meatloaf= Awesome

ABTs = Good, Spicy like I like, but wrapped in turkey bacon, reason here

Try real ones next time....lil disappoint...and used left over t-day turkey/cheese for filler.

Beans---awesome....used left over smoked turkey, and wife and I loved it.

Great stuff.

Last but not least
carrot salad is one of my wife's favo.

another week and another great dinner w leftovers.

I really like Maple wood too. It's great for Turkey and any kind of fish. I sometimes mix in a little of apple wood too.

Hey Mike, where you at in Crestline? My sis has a cabin up there and I love it! Go to Gregory for some trout fishing in spring and fall months. U smoke'n trout?

Her cabin is off Mozumdar @ cedar pines park, you close by?

May be a little late for your smoke, but last week I did the TVWBB smoked meatloaf recipie on the WSM with about 1/2 a handfull of maple chips thrown in (did not have chucks). It was great and the smoke flavor was not overpowering, but was there.

We will do this one again.
