Maple chips

Was at the Bass Pro Shop last weekend, and picked up some maple chips(along with some JD barrel chips,YES!) What takes maple smoke well? I know some smokes are too strong for certain meats. As always, any info from my BBQ brethren is greatly appreciated.

I haven't tried it yet, but I imagine maple would work well w/ salmon. I recently saw a maple syrup glazed grilled salmon. Why not add some maple smoke?

I've used it on butts and birds too.

I just did some salmon with maple wood...awesome! Also did a high heat chicken with a maple / apple mix..excellent. I also agree with Bryan, did some ribs and they were great as well. This is a pretty mild wood IMHO, similar to apple.

In the interest of full disclosure: I've used Sugar Maple. I don't know if "regular" maple would be all that different, but thougth I'd mention it.

i have a small silver maple out front. anybody ever used that? i keep meaning to trim a few branches back but never get around to it.

hey phil! What else do they sell at Bass pro shop? Im kind of looking for some more places to buy charcoal. The one around me didn't have anything but a few bags of K i think (or some off brand maybe, cant remember) but that was early last year and havn't been back since. cause its 45 minutes away I thought I'de ask. thanks.

Dan,my wife and I were running in to get the JD chips while on our way to meet friends for lunch. There was a fishing exhibition going on and all the cooking stuff is WAY in the back so I didn't get a chance to look around. Sorry. But they do have a pretty good web site that is a good indicator of what they have in the store. HTH
