Lid the same on shallow firebox and deep firebox?

Picked up a propane silver b a while ago.

Have been eyeing a CL natural gas silver b with a deep firebox that seems to be in very good condition and reasonably priced.

Considering buying it and swapping fireboxes. Then offing the natural gas rig.

I wish to keep the green lid on the propane silver b and am concerned that the lids wont swap.

Anyone know if they are interchangeable?

I'm almost positive they will interchange and someone on the forum did just that. If you don't get a positive response I have a Genesis 1000 and a Silver B here. I'll pop the lids off and find out for sure if we need to.

After I reread your post you said that a silver B with a deep box. No such animals exist, the deep box were the genesis grills prior to 2000 and had 13 FBs the Silver Bs had the short box and only 5 FBs.
If you have a picture of the one you think is a deep box look and see if it has slates for the shelf or a solid surface shelf. If slats it's a genesis more than likely and would have a deep box, if solid a silver B no deep box.
You also have a problem with swapping the boxes if you do have a genesis 1000 and a silver B. The manifold spacing of the control valves and the burners are different between them. So if one is LP and the other NG you can't take the LP manifold from the silver b and use it on the NG deep box the manifold won't line up with the burner tube holes.
You would be better off waiting to find a LP 1000 to make the swap.

Thanks, Rich! Guess I'll pass.

If I could get the grill for not too much money..... how much $$$ would you estimate the proper manifold/etc would cost?

If you really want to buy it, I have a working propane manifold+regulator+hose for a Genesis 1000. However, to make it complete, you also need the panel for the propane tank to rest against:

and a propane tank scale.

By the time you factor in these costs, it doesn't really make it worthwhile (unless Webers are really uncommon in your area and you REALLY must have it).

That is a Genesis 1000 the manifold is $121, but I would see if someone on the forum would have one they want to sell. The burners look like they are new. You would also need a regulator and hose because I assume you would want to sell the silver B intact about $30 for the regulator and does it come with the flavorizer bars and grates?
You really could end up spending quite a bit if he doesn't have all the parts or they need to be replaced.
If it was me I think I would pass and wait for a deep box that is in pretty good condition and LP, although around here I'm not seeing any deep boxes anymore.
I have a deep box and I've had a silver B. the deep box didn't flare up as much as the silver B but they cook about the same.
Hope that helps.

I could pull a manifold from one of my Genesis 1000's. I have two or three 1000's. Private message me if interested and what you are looking to pay. I could supply the tank support to if needed.
