Libman Brass Brush

Just an FYI. I was cleaning the porcelain grates on my Z Grill pellet grill with a brass Libman brush and when I finished I noticed that there was a brass bristle on the grate. Haven't seen that before with the Libman. So no more brushes with bristles for me!

Been there, Steve, but with a standard Weber brush.

I've been using a Green Egg brush for years and love it. Gotta change the head every so often but no issues at all. Only downside imo is that you can't use it on super-hot grates too often.

Whatever you use always wipe it down with a wad of paper towel.
I've been using the Libman brass brushes for a few years now. Prior to that I had been using Weber bristle brushes. I have found tiny pieces of metal from the Weber brushes in the bottom of the grill (when deep cleaning). That's when I started wiping the grates with a paper towel wet with olive or vegetable oil prior to cooking.
I haven't noticed any brass bristles coming out of the LIbman brushes, but I still wipe the grates prior to cooking, as I wonder if there might be a transfer of soft brass onto the cast iron grates while scrubbing; the wiping negates that.

I generally hold to the concept of “anything that can survive the preheat, can go ahead and kill me!” Fatalist look.
But, a Billy Bar (tip-off the hat to TonyUK on that purchase!) leaves nothing behind. Will last for decades, not a worry about any of that.
Wet towel after things are “off” works really well too. Shut things down, throw a water soaked (big) towel on and a quick wipe the next morning works really well!

Except you don't want to use a Billy Bar on porcelain grates. You'll ruin them

I never used the Libman brass brush only the SS version.
Usually get a few years before I replace. Weird thing is Menards only sells the brass one in the BBQ aisle while the SS one is in the cleaning aisle along side Libmans brushes and brooms.
They have a short and long handled version.

I've just always bought the brass. I think the softer bristles are easier on the porcelain and adequate on the SS grates. So I haven't bothered buying the SS brushes. But in all the years using Libman never once saw so much as an "errant" bristle anywhere. The one time, I decided to use (IDR which Weber brush or Charbroil), is when I ended up with bristles on the food and threw away a while grill full of chicken

Ive been using these ever since I found a wire bristle on a burger. Nexgrill used to make them but ive only been able to find these now. They are the same thing. They work best when the grill is hot. Scrub then scrape. You might go thru a couple a season but they are cheap. I also like them cause they arent giant like a lot of other newer brushes.

Metal bristles introduce a risk I'm simply not willing to take these days. I changed my cleaning approach and transitioned to Char-Broil's nylon brush.

I have one like that but you can replace the head and keep the handle. Used to be made in the USA.
You can get a three pack of pads pretty much anywhere that sells BBQ supplys.
