Kingsford Long Burn

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I searched the board and didn’t see any mention of it. I usually use Kingsford blue bag when I grill and smoke. I need to pickup some more for this weekend and I saw that Lowe’s has Kingsford long burn available. The bag says it burns up to 40% longer. Has anyone used this? If so, what are your thoughts? Does it burn cooler or hotter? Same ash production?

Kingsford Long-Burning Briquets did not appear to burn 25% longer than Kingsford Original Briquets, despite “more premium char blend”. Both charcoals appeared to burn about the same over the 2 hour test period, but Long-Burning produced less ashes by weight and volume than Original.

That's a great test, Chris. I wonder if Kingsford has changed anything or if they've just repackaged. They are now saying up to 40% longer.

Unless they squeezed more fuel into same weight, its highly likely it burns slower =cooler

Burn rate...is controlled by limiting air supply....somehow. with a damper..or with ash

They tweak all kinds of factors, including ingredients and compaction of each briquet.

By the way, that claim of 40% longer is against the burn rate of Original Kingsford, so unless they've reduced the burn rate of original, which I doubt, then it's likely they've tweaked something in the Long Burn version to get that extra 15%.
