Kingsford Charcoal burning quicker

My last 2 bags (Kinsford 18 lbs bags) seem to have burned a lot quicker. My last 2 cooks were both 12 hour cooks, minion'd, (with a VERY full ring)with a clay saucer pan. (same light up procedure I always follow) but except the last 2 times, it seemed as there was barely any charcoal left to keep it going had I needed to.

Is the product any different, or should I just figure it was wind, or rain or something (though it was nice yesterday..rainy the previous cook)
 
Kingsford had a version that was changed last year to burn hotter for grilling. It also seemed to burn out sooner. If I remember correctly the bags are marked burns hotter. Maybe that is the one that you used.
 
The change to the Kingsford formula was in 2006. If you've been using Kingsford since 2006 without problems until now, then it's not a Kingsford reformulation issue.

It was really windy here on Saturday, and I had a heck of a time controlling temps on a rib smoke, and it seemed like I used more fuel than usual (I was using Kingsford, too).

perhaps it is just my imagination.

Is the 18lb product bags any different than the 21 lb bags I can get at Cash and Carry.

Seems like I remember someone posting that the 18 lbs bags were the new product, while the 21 lb was the older formula.
 
I have never used K old or new formula that lasted more than 12 hours without refueling. I usually start throwing in a half dozen or so unlit briquettes starting at 10 hours and about every hour after until the temp of the meat gets close.
