Just got a Weber Q 100

OK- so the last couple of days in my quest for a WSM 18.5" the Weber Q bit me and I jumped on a Q100 with cart and a couple tanks for $75. Seems a bit high but the KC area does seem to trend a little high. I also picked up a cover and the attachment hose from HD. The trouble is, I brushed down the burner since ehte initial burn showed it had a few dead spots on the burner. I also tooled the holes and realized they were blocked something fierce and did a few subsequent burns. I must be low on LP (though it does feel like there is some left in the tank) because after retooling the burner sputtered and then doesn't light.

I'm thinking I'll refill the LP and turn it on again. IF still nothing then I'll cola soak it. if that doesn't help then I'm replacing the burner.

However, I do seem to think that manifold has a little bit of play and seems to some stress when using the larger green bottles of propane(must be why they use a ring support method that this ones seems to lack). But I would think the hose doest apply any downward stress on the manifold and therefore shouldn't affect the burner. I'll let everyone know how I make out with my first couple steps to trouble-shoot.

I suppose the up-side to soaking the burner is I could then do a deeper clean f the bottom bowl…

Andy, have you tried turning on the gas to the Q and waiting a few minutes before trying to light the grill? I have read that people have very similar problems when they go from the small can to the big gas cylinder with the longer hose.
Just a thought,
Tim

You got a good deal. Try using a 1 lb tank and go from there. Just check older post for help. I love my q100 and I know you will.

Ok- so I hooked up the little camp bottle of propane this eve and the burner fired up like a champ- no issues even though I didn't do anything new to it. I let it run for 10 mins and then heated up the griddle for another 20 mins in order to brush the griddle down. Thankfully, this just saved me ~$60+ and taking it apart! I'm really glad I found this and took the plunge on it! I registered with Weber and they say it's an '04-'07 Baby Q model. I think I might order the little side shelves for it while I can still find them on Amazon. It doesn't seem like there's much else out there as accessories for the Baby Qs. I do wish they made a better/hotter burner. The 8.5K BTU seems rather… wanting for more juice. Would a different regulator have an effect on it- assuming a different one would fit? I wonder what it would do if you could get 12K out of it or if that would be safe?

Well, not sure what happened but today- the Baby Q is kaput…. doesn't matter if I use the camp bottle or the big tank- I got nothing on it. Any thoughts on if it's the manifold or regulator? It just worked last night with the camp propane bottle…

If you’re experiencing problems using the 6’ adapter hose and 20lb bottle with the Q not getting hot enough or won’t light at all this is a recurring problem that has been posted here before, below is my response to that thread.

Here is the Weber response to that problem and where I got the information on the link above.

If it doesn’t work with the small bottle it might very well be the regulator.
I did find on my Q100 the small bottle had to be really snug before gas would flow.
