It was free!

Jon,

Yup, I did luck out on this grill. What sucks though is that I already have it in a C version so this will probably be rehabbed for sale or for a friend...not too sure yet. As far as the bottom goes I may just get some aluminum tubing and use those for the for the longer cross bars and put a Silver C basket on it and call it good. I'm not so sure though on how I would price this one to sell as it should be worth more than a regular gold B due to the stainless frame but the public doesn't know that kind of stuff or wouldn't even care and would probably back away at the asking price of $350. Of course it should be worth more that that but still...

I would think you could get around $350 for that grill if you rehabbed it. Talk up the stainless in the add.

Another one for free...Genesis 3000

This one came with SS grates and an empty propane tank. Frame is still solid, no rust to be seen.

This was a pretty good weekend, as I picked up an 05 platinum B and now this Genesis 3000. I'm also seeing more vintage grills popping up in my area so be on the lookout. Tempted on getting this one...

but I better lay off for now lol.

I would offer a little less on the Silver C and grab it. It will be an easier rehab than the 3000. Maybe wait a few days and offer $25.

I agree with Bruce on both observations. The Platinum may take longer to sell, but the right person will see the value in a very rare opportunity to get one with a 304 stainless frame.

For myself I would rather own the 3000, but the Silver C will be a lot less work.

Yah, I would like the 3000 as well but already have 2 gassers (01 Platinum C, 13 bar, and 05 Platinum C) so I'm good. I did put in an offer on another Silver C (post #20) so we'll see what happens. And the 05 platinum B will go to my cousin once it's fixed up, I told him to sell his Kenmore grill because this one will probably be the last grill he'll need.

Sam you are on one helluva lucky streak. As hard as I try, I can't buy a 3000
or a Jr locally for any price. There just are none around here.

Get it for the curiosity factor but not because it was/is a great grilling machine (it was not) which is the main reason it was discontinued so early in life

That does seem to be that grill's story. So, yes I would be sorely tempted to grab it if it were near me but not for actually USING it. A hopeless collector...good thing I don't have lots of room!

It is strange to me why this design didn't wind up working well. When I look at the burner configuration of the Silver A I picked up, I am shocked at how they have the two burners so close to the edges with a pretty large gap in between. All that covered by just one row of bars. Yet, most say they are really good cookers. Then you have the Jr. which has the classic double-row of flavorizer bars and based on appearances would seem to have very good potential. Nonetheless, they are usually denigrated as being poor cookers. I guess I am accountant and not an engineer;).

So I sent the seller a message last night but no response so I'm not sure if it's still available. If it is though I'm still not sure if I'll get it as I've heard that replacement burners will be hard to find because other folks have been fabricating them since they're no longer available.

I'm glad to see that the usual suspects are still here and up to no good! :)

I picked up this Silver B for free earlier this week, it came with a nice set of cast iron grates.

Sam,

I think restoring one is certainly going to be harder work (and more expense) for sure than doing a regular Genny. As JKim correctly pokes fun at us collector types, it really comes down to how bad you want to have something unusual, historic and maybe kind of "cute" to show off. You can clearly get a classic older Genesis that cooks better and has the same old-fashioned solid build for a lot less money and have a lot easier time renovating and keeping it going.

Even someone as crazy as me can see the limit sometimes. I saw a rare and really nice natural gas first generation Summit 6 burner within a long but doable round trip a while back. Since natural gas is not usable in my area I tried looking into getting a manifold and other parts for this grill. I already new from Larry's bad experience not to expect a firebox to be available. But, from what I could see neither were most other 1st generation specific Summit parts:(. So, conversion looked pretty dicey and even if it was already LP, I would have to be really committed (lots of spending $ - hah!) to find ways to fabricate what I need. So, while a really cool, historic grill (and also a superb cooker), these are probably out of my reach. So, even I can say no sometimes!

Oh yah, I totally understand that Jon. I have not heard back from the seller though so it may be a good thing. Even if it is still available I'd think twice about getting it, however, I was thinking that if I do get and if someone on this board really wants it that bad then I'll take the time to ship it to them....they'd have to cover the shipping fees of course or if you're close by and I get the grill then let me know and you can pick it up from me as I'm sure there are others out there that want this grill more than I do and I'd be willing to help any member on this forum get it.

It is really unfortunate that grills are heavy and large to ship. You are looking at freight shipping or maybe you can get lucky and get added to a greyhound run. Regardless, it is pretty pricey shipping across the country. If it weren’t I would probably have more collectibles waiting for me to work on them:rolleyes:!
