Sure, I see no reason to have a couple of butts so close together on an 22. I figure if the middle part of the grate is the coolest spot, I want a little space there if possible, turning the butts with the thickest sides to the outside of the grate, fat down. Even with three butts though, I still find the center of the grate is just fine for measuring temp. Like with three large slabs of st. Louis ribs though, it's tough to get room to put a probe with four butts on the grate. I'd do like I mentioned earlier with my 18", hanging it from the center so that the probe isn't getting dripped on.
