ISO a Built in gas grill for outdoor kitchen. Weber Summit or something else???

I’m in the planning stages of my outdoor kitchen build on my newly covered patio. I’ve been a long time Weber fan, having had multiple Genesis gas grills, all sizes of Weber kettle grills, and Weber smokers. The Summit seemed like the logical choice, but the reviews are mixed.

The good:

It’s a Weber, so I feel good about parts availability over the long haul. With this being built in, I want something that will last 15 years with parts available as needed

I like the idea of the top down burner (never used one)

I like the look of the design

Price is high, but not insane compared to other models I’ve glanced at (I haven’t done any real research yet)

The questionable: (I have no local dealers with Summit models on the floor, so I have not put hands on one yet)

I’ve read about a big gap between the lid and the bottom that allows rain in. This is a real concern for me. If water leaks through into my cabinets, it will be bad.

I’ve read the overall build quality is not as robust as expected.

The painted hoods scratch easily or arrive scratched

What else should I consider???

Parts availability long term is my #1 concern, followed closely build quality (no water leaks) and cooking performance. What do you like and suggest. I’d really like to stay under $5k, that alone is a huge stretch for me.

What do I cook? Great question.
I mainly cook burgers, steaks, and chicken on my genesis. Occasionally I’ll do a beef roast of some sort. I don’t see that changing much, but a rotisserie would be cool to add.

Fire away!

First Weber does not "paint" their hoods. They're porcelain (not porcelain enamel BTW which is totally different). But true porcelain glazed. Very scratch resistant. Personally if you can cover the freight of a Summit, I would go for it. Backing of a good company, the improved fire box, top down IR burner. Lots of great stuff there to like IMO. Best thing there is? IDK likely not. But easily available as a main stream product? Sure you bet. Another great choice would be Napoleon. Excellent products. Every bit as good or better than Weber. Personally I would love that top down burner. Adds so much more versatility

I have put my hands on the newest Summit offered, and can tell you 100% it is beefed up to what you would think the top tier Weber should be. It is absolutely out of my range of what I am willing to spend on a grill, but I can appreciate the unit it is and would LOVE the opportunity to cook on one.

I second Larry with the the Napoleon. The offerings I have seen look like great units and if I was in your position I would for sure investigate them. I would look around on Reddit and look for either Summit or Outdoor kitchen groups on Facespace to see if there would also be any insight there. "BBQ Shacks and Shanties" group on Facebook has some incredible outdoor kitchens, I have seen some high end built-in grills posted there.

The outdoor grills / kitchen / cook area can get pretty amazing.
I have it pictured in my head but it's not until I move.
Some noted outdoor equipment you could investigate are LYNX is pretty expensive / NAPOLEON as noted would be the least expensive I listed / SEDONA is by Lynx and I think they are a tad less spendy...
All these lines also carry built in components, such as side burners, sinks, storage and fridges..........so you can really build something special if that is what you were looking for.
Weber does make a built in offering, but I haven't easily found the accessories like other brands have.

I’d look at a Blaze. I was in your position a few years back and decided on a WSK and completely moved off gas. That was my choice.

The Blaze grills are built for drop in and are made of nice SS.

IIRC, Blaze is owned by BBQGuys. They’re designed in the USA but hecho en Chine.

Idk where Weber is manufacturing their gas Summits.

Pretty sure the Summits are at least "assembled and packed" here in Huntley IL

Ok, another question. Is there any difference in food flavor or max temperature between natural gas and propane? I have my patio pre-plumbed for NG, but I’m not opposed to making room for propane tanks if it’s better. I’ve never grilled on NG. We cook on it everyday, but that’s a stovetop.
