Is the Mica Black for the lid color or the durawood color? It should be a model year 1999 as well. The manual may be 1998, but the serial number is for the 99 model year. They likely made the same model for both years. I think the Mica Black indicates the lid color and probably the 1300 denotes the black durawood.

Bruce have you ever sanded durawood to make it look a little better or should I not do that

I have not tried sanding durawood. It might be an option, but I would do it on an inconspicuous spot to test. Maybe start with a scrap gray one to start with.

I think the Mica black/dark gray was a color that was sold through Target, although it may have been used for others. One of my very first grills was a Target model of that color. I blew a LOT of money on genuine Weber parts back in the day! Mine had no slats when I got it. The gray durawood was one of the thing$ I bought from Weber :p.

Nice!

Apparently the one I just grabbed is a 1300, no idea what that means but thats what Weber says...

I realize sanding it too much would make it just a solid smooth stick of plastic. Good idea Ill try a trashed grey one

Ok sanded a crappy grey stick. Actually, hard to tell from the pics but it did make it look better. Thw texture smoothed out but it got all the melty looking stuff out and it still looks textured. Ill try another bad stick before I do the black ones. Great. More sanding haahaa

Best way I have come up with to clean durawood is to soak the slats in hot water, bleach, and some dish detergent. I do it in my sink at night when my wife goes to bed. I let them soak, scrub them all with a brush and soak them some more. The final step is to run them through the dishwasher. You will be amazed how dirty the water in the sink is and how good they look coming out of the dishwasher.

The only other 1300 grills I have seen also had a gray lid and black durawood. I also believe it was a Target exclusive.

I think maybe instead of sandpaper maybe give ScotchBrite a go

I sanded the grey one with a power orbital. It had a big melted spot on it. Came out smooth but still looked textured.

Its not so much that the black ones are dirty, they seem like they are almost seperating and are a little melted looking.

Ill try cleaning the black ones before I sand them.
