In my haste to get going.........

Kroger has spares for 99cents here so I went out fairly early and stocked up. Trimmed up one rack for a lazy Saturday afternoon smoke and in my haste to get started, I forgot to put the charcoal ring in. Thought it looked kinda funny but I couldn't figure it out. Anyone else do this?:wsm22:

John;
I haven't yet, but, no doubt, it WILL happen.

I did dump my 14.5" and failed to notice that the heat shield left at the same time as my ash. My cook ended prematurely and I had to finish in the oven (I ran out of charcoal in the WSM). Whether that was the only reason, or not, I haven't yet determined...

I've had no trouble since. but I WATCH when I dump the ash.

I wired my charcoal ring to the charcoal grate. I'm pretty sure I won't forget it. I recommend you do the same. Not so much so you don't forget it, but it makes for a good way to handle your charcoal. Give your partially used charcoal a shake and add some fresh and you're ready for your next cook.

I can "second the motion" to Jerry N's suggestion. I did that right after I got my WSM and it works like a charm.
