Terry if you're looking to duplicate what is sold in most grocery stores as smoked salmon you'll likely need a cold smoking setup. The smoked salmon recipes on the homepage of virtualweberbullet and many of the ones on the page that Jim linked will produce a hot-smoked cooked salmon. Delicious but when I (uninitiated) did my first piece of smoked salmon I was surprised with the results.
I bought this book and followed the recipe for cold smoked and it was fantastic. The book is full of recipes and techniques for both hot and cold smoke salmon and trout recipes.
