I just fixed up a “broken” igniter that _shockingly_ still worked, and just had the wire broken off flush at the end. Pretty easy repair. I popped the black snap cap off to look inside. Just cleaned it up and lightly oiled.

-I used a hacksaw to cut around and cut off ~1/4” of the bottom without cutting through the internal metal stud.
-I then pulled off the old broken wire crimp and cleaned all the rust off the stud.
-I crimped on a new connector and wire. I had to trim the heat shrink off the igniter end.

Works great!

I did this just to get up and running with a grill. Next time I’ll probably just order the electrode/wires/igniter kit that’s currently $10 on amazon. But this fix was quick and I was curious how it went together. One less igniter in the trash...

Now that is dedication. Those bottom connections are always hard to remove from the igniter. I wind up breaking them many times as well.

Ha. This was one of those “just fix it and be done with it” moments. Easy enough since I don’t have an inventory of spare igniters. Yet. I’ve used the bbq lighters a bunch but always misplace them. It’s so nice just pressing the ignite button.

thanks for posting. pretty basic looking really. I've got an igniter on a Q I need to take a look at and see if I can rig something up. I think the end connector just got cut off somehow. sounds like I just need to splice in a little extra length of wire and find an end that will fit into the back of the igniter.
