If I went to the dark side...

OK, so I'm seriously thinking about replacing my aging WSM with a Pro Q smoker. I'm attracted by what seems to be the heavier metal, more thoughtful add-ons like probe access and bacon hangars, and, most importantly, the higher degree of air tightness. I think in the States it's the Apollo, and in Canada a Napoleon.
Anyway, will I be ostracized? Receive hate mail? Will Chris move all my posts to Seafood Recipes? The idea is scary...

DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DONT DO IT !!!!!
Ive had both and there is no comparison the weber is a different breed .HONESTLY. the pro q do not hold temp like a wsm ..
it will fade after a year..where the wsm will stay as new for ever ..
the WSM is a BEAST

I wasted a year on a Pro Q smoker and all I can say is that they are shocking. They do not hold temp the build quality is terrible the paint fades after a few months and it will end up looking an eyesore in your garden. About all they are good for is making you see how far superior the WSM is in every aspect.

PS they do make good burners for garden rubbish though !!

If the pro Q is not porcelain coated don't consider it. The longevity of a WSM is largely attributable to the coating.
The Apollo if painted is either a 2-3 year cooker or will require a lot of care to survive longer.

Well - Taking some liberties with history. Apollo was the Greek God of "cute", Napoleon was exiled, and the Smokey Mountains are "rock solid". I like "rock solid".

Some good points there - thanks. I guess i should work on my WSM cover and try to get it tighter, and also make duct tape a regular part of my Q kit. Interesting, the guy at Ontario BBQ - world's largest Q & Grill store (really), is way strong on WSMs.

Besides, my wife just said, "You don't need a new smoker anyway!." So, we have heard from on high!
