Hey all,

I guess I need to reintroduce myself since I haven't done much posting since I joined in 2008, I kinda got sidetracked with other smoking projects. Actually when I joined I didn't own a WSM, but rather was looking for recipes on how to make deep pit BBQ beef in my oven. I followed this board for about a year and then one day I walked in to our Ace Hardware and there was 18.5" WSM, I bought it immediately and that was the start of my smoking adventure.

A year later I was in Ace Hardware and they had propane GOSM sitting by the door which I also bought immediately, which I have added PID controlled electric strip heaters and a homemade cold smoke generator so that I can have the lower temps to smoke sausage.

The next thing that followed me home was a Weber Genesis E310, so as you can see I have been bitten by the bug.

I love my WSM and have tried many recipes from this site, however unfortunately/fortunately for me when I visited the other day there was the thread about the Santa Maria Grill, since I used to live on the Central Coast and am very familiar with Santa Maria BBQ that immediately caught my eye, the wheels started turning, why not, I've been resisting for some time buying a Weber Performer because they sell for $700, but I can build a Santa Maria Grill for less than that so off to the drawing board I went, so I'll order the steel bent Monday and away we'll go.

Thanks for having me.

Welcome back Karl. I think from time to time some of the folks that were members back then still come around. We'll be interested in seeing your Santa Maria in action once your project is complete.

Somehow when I picture Tahiti the image of an Ace Hardware doesn't pop into my head. Welcome back.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the warm welcome, probably the image most of you have of Tahiti was like mine at first, white sand beaches, blue lagoon, coconut palms, those images are only found on the outer islands, Tahiti has become very commercialized and when the tourists first arrive here they are very disappointed, that's why the island of Tahiti is just the starting port and last port of their itinerary, the rest of the time they are visiting the other islands on cruise ships.

As for my grilling/smoking area, just give me some to to clean it up, we just finished some remodeling, after it's clean I'll post some pics and also some of the local fauna.
