I will just leave this here

The
I have seen first generation summit with wire rack floor inside the cabinet and it seems like a good option especially for something that's sometimes a rust issue.
Was just going to say that, you beat me to it. The rust in the bottom of those is obviously their big weakness so anything you do that keeps the basic look of the grill while eliminating that rust is an improvement in my book. Being able to weld in new cross members is a huge advantage for you.

Cody, I did that on my SS Platinum frankengrill except I didn't replace the rotted out floor with a wire basket, I added an aluminum floor.
I like the aluminum floor. Is that just a washer tacked into place to accept the hinge rod? I would think that with a nylon washer between the frame and the door would work as a guide to prevent metal on metal when opening and closing.

Weren't the fat frames wire baskets inside the cabinet? I swear I have seen pics of it before.

Cody here is one. Not exactly what you want to do but maybe it will spark some ideas for you.

Honestly - if you've got the bottom drop/snap in rack - I'd ditch the cabinet all together and just have an open cart.... The cabinets don't do much for me except make me look every once in a while to see if/how badly its rusting.
I've got a bottom rack saved for if my Spirit/SilverB rots out, or I run across one that I want to save.

I recall that one now! It’s a shame to hide that woodwork in the doors! That’s a beautiful restoration.

Took a stab at Bruce’s method of doing the top in High Heat Ultra and lower portions with Rustoleum 2x semi gloss.

This is the frame that I had previously painted with the High Heat flat black. I didn’t like the look of it so I sanded it back down and put this over the top. On the end caps I did flat, and then sprayed semi over it kind of killed the shine. So I’ll see how this one turns out.

It’s kinda crazy to me how much differently the 2x sprays vs. the HH Ultra.

Has anyone used Cumaru (Brazilian Teak)?
I'm thinking about picking some up at this low price. I could get More than enough wood to do slats on two separate grills for $50. From my research it last 50+ years and is the second best option after IPE. I already have IPE ironwood (Brazilian Walnut) which is said to be the best and last 75 plus years. I know saying the best is subjective but what I'm talking about is marine grade outdoor durability.
