I will just leave this here

So while cleaning and prepping my 1000 frame for painting I thought of something while I was wire brushing the welds. I wonder if they make a wire brush for a reciprocating saw (sawzall). Welp, amazon has it for $12.95. It’s scheduled to be here tomorrow. This thing could be a real game changer for how I do things, or it could totally suck. I’ll let you fine folks know how it works!
Which 1000 are you working on?

This one. After tearing it down and degreasing I’m seeing more iffy spots than I did during initial inspection. No real bad rust spots, should be mostly all spot fixes. But after degreasing a lot of the welds need some good wire brushing, thus why I thought of that type of wire brush.

That looks like it's in pretty good condition overall. Can't wait to see what you do with it!

Anyone have any thoughts on these black 316 SS marine grade washers instead of black nylon washers on the frame bolts?

I'm traveling to AZ and my mind is wandering.

My only illogical apprehension is that when you tighten the bolt, it will indent and compromise the paint, if the bolt grabs the washer and spins it, the seemingly not sharp edge will remove a small amount of paint and scrape it down to the steel.

Does anyone have a better source for these?

Cody if it's marine rated black stainless then it's not paint. It's an anodizing process done during the process and it's much more than skin deep

This could be prove to be interesting or a total disaster in the making. Thanks for taking one for the team with your investment and initiative. Looking forward to the results.

No doubt. I’m talking about the paint on the frame. Similarly to how a washer leaves what I call witness marks on a car. You can see where it chews into the finish and often goes to bare metal.

I’m hoping to have a performer ready to sell this week. We’ll see when the new gas assist tube shows up. For a 99 that thing was in amazing shape. I don’t think it was cooked on 50 times. To think it was 25 years old when I saved it from the scrap pile is incredible. Plus it had the good heavy wire baskets in great shape, that won’t be going with it!
