I need a Gas Guru..........

So I purchased a 1997 Genesis 1000LX last winter for smaller or quicker cooks. After some minor rehab, I fired it up and everything seemed to be fine…. It got hot. Today I decided to look into what I believed was a minor issue. The temps never got above 430F on the thermometer. First thing was to re-clean the burner slots with a wire brush. After doing this I noticed the middle burner had no flame. I removed the nozzle to it and found it was clogged with spider webs. Cleaned all the nozzles, fired it up and all three burner bars have a nice uniform blue flame. Only trouble is, I still can’t get above 430F. We can rule the thermometer out as I hooked the Maverick up to it and they read pretty close. I went through the exercise to eliminate the excessive flow safety device and I’m still at 430F. One note as Iam new to this. The brownish pipe thread that appears to go into the black knob still is able to rotate fairly freely with a little effort. I checked for leaks with soapy water and found nothing. Is this normal? That’s it! Gas regulator? Manifold problem? Suggestions?

As Always…. Thanks,
Rolf

The regulators over time can block up, and they do come in different sizes. i would try another known good tank/regulator and see if that solves the problem.

Thanks Stephen. I've swapped tanks and no difference. Your suggestion about swapping out regulators is a good one but I have no additional regulators. That was one of the reasons for the post. Is a faulty regulator the problem?

Thanks!

That kind of looks like somebody cobbled a new tank adapter to an old regulator. That should be a brass pipe in there. Yours looks like galvanized or steel.

I wasn't getting above about 325 on my 1000 and had done all other checks. Ordered new regulator/hose from Weber and now it goes above 550. Only cost about $25.00. Sounds like you have done everything else so I would guess that the regulator/hose is your best bet. Good Luck.

I've replaced two regulators because of that same problem and both times it fixed the problem. You don't have to use a Weber regulator any regulator that is listed like below will work fine. I get mine off of EBay for $16.49 with free shipping. Or Home Depot, Lowes Etc. sell them for about $25. Hope that helps.

AGA certified LP gas grills with threaded connectors, fits Type-1 (QCC-1) type tank connections.

Well I contacted Weber Customer Service and as always, they were very helpful. They agreed it’s probably the regulator so I ordered a new one. After I placed the order I was asked if I needed anything and as an afterthought, I mentioned I was short one spider guard. The kit for three arrived with the new regulator at no charge. Hooked the new regulator up and after 10 minutes I was at 525 so I turned it off. As usual Weber CS has been great and I want to thank everyone who replied for the sound advice.
