I made some unusual observations tonight **Pics added**

So about a year ago, I scored a "C" WSM on Craigs List. It's been sitting in the shed waiting for me to get around to cleaning it up.
Over the course of the last few nights I have scrubbed the dome and center section clean, and last night I took the legs off of the charcoal bowl to give it a thorough cleaning and get the intake vents fixed and shaped. (All of the stop tabs were bent over and the daisy wheels didn't hug the bowl.)
Tonight I was scrubbing it clean. As I worked on one of the vents and got some of the gunk off, I noticed it had both a "C" stamp and a "D" stamp. This was only on one vent. All of the other vents are stamped only with a "C".
Also, the handle has only one screw, and the charcoal ring has two sets of holes around it. The "C"s were only supposed to have one.
So for you "C" club members out there, does your handle have one screw or two rivets?
I'm thinking this one was made in late 1981 early 1982 and had some parts from both years.
Your thoughts?
Yes, when I get it done I'll post pics, and hopefully Chris will make me a double member of the "C" Club. :D

OK. Cleanup is finally done and here are some pics.

First, just a shot of the WSM.

The original handle.

The dual date code bottom vent.

And upon closer inspection, what I originally thought was a scratch on the top vent turned out to be a part of a second date stamp. You can make it out to the lower left of the rivet.

So, there you go. A "C" WSM with two vents that have dual date stamps.

last summer I replaced the legs on my 18. I picked up some stainless nuts/bolts from Lowes. It worked out very nicely.

Hey Brett,
If you don't mind my asking, why did you have to replace the legs and why did you put the new bolts in the way you did?
I usually replace all of the nuts an bolts on the WSMs I cook on with stainless, but the "B" and "C" vintage WSMs are classic collectibles, and I like to keep those as close to original as possible.

She's Beautiful Clark!!
Love the original wood handle!
butt, I have a problem with the wood on the cooker I KNOW i'll dirty-up with gunky hands.... I gotta have the cheapo plastics on my smokers.
I save the wood for the kettles.

Thanks Jim. Distance can be a WSMs best friend. There's a bit of chipping on this girl.
This one will likely never see fire, unless I'm in a serious capacity pinch. She's a looker.
