Holy Grail 5000/Platinum with Glass Cabinet in suburban Chicago area

Here's what appears to be a complete 5000/Platinum Series? Genesis with the glass cabinetry intact and only $140. Better move quick if this is something you have wanted. The cabinetry always reminds me of my 1980's college stereo cabinet.

Man, that one has it all, doesn't it? Ad should read, Must love Durawood (which I do!)

EDIT: That is too beautiful to be a barbeque. So impractical, too.

I had a stereo cabinet with doors like this. If I can mount my 8-track under this firebox, oh, that's the ultimate setup.... But seriously, glass doors that never rust, that is indeed appealing.

I saw that one too, it's close to me. It looks like a nice grill but I personally don't want a NG grill. I especially don't want to pay for it and cap off their gasline, and then have to aquire the parts to convert it to LP. I hope someone else grabs it before I do all the stuff I just said I wouldn't do.

It's kind of amazing how many nice NG grills I have been coming across around here. I know getting the parts isn't a problem, but it's still an extra step I don't really want to take. The only thing I really want right now is a Skyline so it's easier for me to be picky. If that grill stays on for awhile and I can get for less then I will take the plunge.

Steve, what is unique about a Skyline that you covet it so?

Do we agree that this grill has potentially more value than a Skyline, and that it is undervalued at the asking price? The Skyline was a special economy edition, or at least close to an entry level grill, while the 5000 was the top of the line no-holds-barred luxury version. If it's not your cup of tea, it would be the ultimate bargaining chip in a trade, IMO.

Ed, you're right as always. If I wasn't in the middle of a bathroom remodel I would probably be more excited about it. If it wasn't 30 degrees here and snowing, I would probably be more excited about it. If it's still available in a couple of days I will still try and get it because it is very cool.

Ok, I get it. Sometimes life gets in the way of our leisurely pursuits, and while it may well be a Holy Grail to some, it may not be the grill that one has his sights set on. As for me, while I'd like to have it, I think i would just as equally like to have someone else own it who appreciates it as I do so I don't have to decide what to do with it.

EDIT: Besides, I really think this grill belongs indoors because of the glass doors. In all honesty, if they were still being sold today I would never buy one for that reason. My Holy Grail is the model below this one, the 4000, which I am fortunate enough to have.

That's the problem. I do want it, and I would try my best to make it brand new again. It would then become part of my permanent collection because I would become emotionally attached to it and couldn't let it go. Realistically though, I need to finish this bathroom or my wife is going to throw me out😀

I know that feelin!

Every time I see those glass doors I think about the time I hit a sprinkler head with a lawnmower and it ended up in the middle of the street in front of my neighbor's house...
