Holding butts

4 butts got done way sooner than I had thought. I have them still in the smoker holding at 196* smoker is at 212 right now. I have been holding them for about 1 1/2 hours now. question can i continue to hold them for another hour, then wrap and put in a cooler. the BBQ starts in about6 hours.

I'd go ahead and foil the butts, then put them back on the cooker while it's dying down, then into the cooler. They would probably hold 'hot' in a cooler for 6 hours, but just to make sure I'd put them in the cooker for a bit as it's winding down.

Just make sure you put them in a cooler just big enough to hold them, not one where there will be alot of space left. Wrap them in towels or blanket to help insulate.
 
It must be something in the air this weekend. I had two butts come off much earlier than I expected, which kept me up most of the night.

I pulled 14 pounds at 5:00. At least my wife woke up to a clean kitchen.

I pulled 2 butts @(9:45 AM), earlier than I expected also.

Mine were at 205 in the foil on the WSM.

Put in a paper/Towel lined cooler hopeing to hold till about 3:30 this after noon.

Any thought any one.

Mine are i the cooler now, holding about 190.
I had foiled and put back on the smoker till about 7:30. So far so good.

If you have any misgivings, stick a probe in while the meat is in the cooler.
 
update, we pulled the butts about noon they were at 175.Since we did not eat all the butts i kept them wrapped in the cooler. At 4:00 PM the butts were still at 153. Thanks to Larry suggesting not to have any air space left i have kept these butts hot all day.
