I'd go ahead and foil the butts, then put them back on the cooker while it's dying down, then into the cooler. They would probably hold 'hot' in a cooler for 6 hours, but just to make sure I'd put them in the cooker for a bit as it's winding down.
Just make sure you put them in a cooler just big enough to hold them, not one where there will be alot of space left. Wrap them in towels or blanket to help insulate.
