High Heat Ultra Paint - Did we know this?

Myself along with surely many others enjoy using the Rustoleum High Heat Ultra paint for cookbox exteriors and lid end caps.

I was randomly perusing reviews and came across this response from the manufacturer:

Is it common knowledge for most around here that the paint is supposed to be heated above 450 degrees for an hour to cure it?

I’ve bid farewell to a couple refurbs now that I haven’t given an hour’s worth of propane to, and wonder if a summer rain washed away my hard work.

Does anyone actually do this, or have any first hand experience with the paint failing before being “fully cured”?

Sure enough, on the label of the Ultra says exactly that (for temps that will reach over 500):

Curiously though, that requirement is not in the label for the non-Ultra version of the paint:

I don't guess I really knew this specifically, but I have USUALLY done a burn off that should accomplish this goal. I am glad you pointed this out for this paint that a lot of us use. It does make sense.

When I have tried to get by with 600-degree paint on some of my Weber Q grills (because I liked the color options) I have been more zealous about doing a series of curing heats.

I've noticed that it doesn't come off if you don't heat cure it but it will scratch easily. That's why I've gotten away from using it on parts that aren't exposed to heat.
Interesting, I hadn't thought about that before. That makes the way Bruce does it make a lot more sense to me now. I've always just painted the entire frame with the ultra, now I kind of want to try one using all 2X to see how it holds up to the heat around the cook box.

Will that be on a flipper or a personal grill?
Bruce, I never know what I'm going to do with a grill when I'm done with it so I always work on them as if I was going to keep it for myself. I wouldn't try painting the frame this way if I didn't think it would turn out well, or if you didn't think it would. I trust your experience.

Yah, overlap the 2x and the HH ultra all the time and am sure I got plenty of the 2x in the area of the cook box and have never noticed a problem. I also accidentally painted the whole frame with 2x once or twice but I did put a coat of HH Ultra over that where the cook box is. I looked for problems when I did a good burn in and didn't notice any thing.
