Hi, I'm New

Hi y'all, my name is Joe, and I found this board when I had a hunch that Weber would most likely be introducing a new Genesis since the MAP dropped $100.

I live outside of Orlando proper and am about an every other week griller on another brand of grill. The box and grates are on their final legs after only 3 years of use and I figured I would "invest" in a Weber gasser that would last more than 3 years.

While I'm looking at a new Genesis, I'm also fascinated by the community of rehabbers who refurb older Geneses(?). I may pick up an older unit and convert it into a griddle unit and get a new gasser for my grilling and smoking.

I look forward to the camaraderie and advice.

Welcome Joe. Somewhere on the forum there is a post about the new Genessis along with some pictures. Hopefully someone can find it and post a link. I have a newer Genessis, about 4 years old but hardly use it anymore. I mostly use charcoal now. However if I can find a red performer like I had in early 90s I'd pick it up in a heartbeat and get rid of my new one. Anyhow, welcome and I look forward to seeing what you cook up.

Welcome to the forum Joe. It is a great place for advice and everyone is very friendly and willing to help. As for rehabbing older Genesis grills, a lot of us have done it. A few years ago I found a Genesis 1000 Redhead on Craigslist and rehabbed it after reading the many threads on this forum. It is now about 20 years old and going strong. My wife uses it regularly and leaves the charcoal cooks to me. I suspect the older Genesis grill will last a lifetime with proper care. I looked at them for many years and always hated the price. If I had gotten one way back when, I would have saved myself a lot of money replacing cheap grills. You will enjoy rehabbing an older grill. The satisfaction of doing it is really great. Good luck in your search and we will be here to help.

Welcome to the forum Joe. I went through the same situation 3 times in a row. I fought buying a Weber due to the cost. 9 years and 3 POS gas grills later I finally pulled the trigger. I actually bought a charcoal performer and went without gas for a few months. I found a Weber on CL and rehabbed it. It's a 2003 model that is the best gasser I have ever owned.
