This weekend I became a Weber owner for the first time! Our neighborhood (Lake Bella Vista) was hosting its annual garage sale event and I was going from house to house looking for a grill to replace my old, rusted out workhorse. Finally, after most homeowners had closed up shop, we found a guy who had a bunch of nice stuff for sale...but we didn't see a grill. My wife asked him, "You don't have a grill you'd like to sell, do you?" He smiled, and said he had one up in the attic. He told us it had been, "sitting around for a while." I went up into the garage attic with him and we found the boxes...open and dusty. I asked him what he'd take for it and he said $100.
I bought it, got it home, laid out all the pieces, and found assembly instructions online (since the owners manual was missing from the open boxes), and put it together. The hardware was still in factory sealed bags, it was not just unused...it was brand new. It is a beauty. I believe it is a Genesis 2000 redhead. I think the round marking on the lid side panels seem to indicate that it was cast in January of 1992. I'd say it looks pretty nice for being more than 33 years old!
I have been thinking of selling it and buying something more industrial, less beautiful...but this morning I looked at it and thought it looked pretty good on my deck! I think it might have to stay and actually be put to the use it was intended for — grilling delicious food!
I'm glad to find this site — I wouldn't be shocked to find myself flipping these cool old grills before long!
