Hi from Atlanta
I have an 18" Weber kettle charcoal grill which I found on the side of the road. It predates the one-touch as it has the three damper vents in the bottom. I went to my local hardware store and they had the right damper pieces to close the vents! I bought a new cooking grate for it and it is my traveling Weber. I throw it in the car and take it to work etc. I worked Forth of July and took it to work so I could cook burgers and dogs which the staff enjoyed. Upon returning home I discovered rust holes through the leg supports. So I took it to a friends' auto repair shop and a guy did some great welding to add some great strength to the support pieces. I need to clean up the rust and hit it with some hi temp paint in those places and I think my 18" will last and last! It has wooden handles in good shape.
My 22" Weber kettle was purchased at a thrift store for $6. Upon inspection in the store, there was a hornets nest inside. So I had to go to a nearby store to buy bee spray and kill the hornets before I could put it in the back of my convertible! Off to the hardware store I went to buy the new one touch pieces and a new cooking grate. It had three wooden handles in poor shape so I replaced those with the Weber handles. I used it last night to cook fish tacos for the family.
My oldest grill is an LP Charbroil 9000 which I rebuilt twice to use for the Girl Scout troop when I had to cook hamburgers or dogs for the masses. I may give it to my nephew who found a Weber 1000 on the side of the road in need of care.
That's my Weber story .. So I look forward to learning more from the folks here.
