Help

OK,now I got a question. I post links to my photobucket account, not actual pics in my posts. Can I still post here,or do posts with links gotta go to the new section? Oh,it makes my head spin!

Let's go with things as they are for a while and see what happens. I will be monitoring the situation and listening to your feedback.

Regards,
Chris

Thanks, Chris.

If an extra 10 mouse clicks is going to make a significant difference in my day, I guess I don't have enough things to worry about.

I think the new part of this forum is great!

And Phil i would say that the new section shines when EVERY picture post of a meal that you wanna share is posted in the "Photo Sharing for Barbecuing & Grilling"

To *-=>Larry Wolfe<=-* Even though you have been posting a bit weird stuffs lately i will miss you ALOT!

The new format makes no sense. BBQ and grilling section was the best. w/o pix is silly. Why not just remove all the sections and just have the pic section...
NOT HAPPY

When I see a big increase in a certain type of post, I begin to think about whether I should create a new forum for that type of post. People have always attached photos to posts, but it seems like the vast majority of posts in the Grilling forum, for example, are photo posts, not questions or discussion topics.

My concern is that the photo posts are drowning out the discussion posts and the question posts. That's why I decided to separate the two.

As I said above, let's live with this for a while and see how it plays out. If anyone has a smart idea on how to handle this, I'm open to suggestions. If you don't want to post here, click "Contact Us" at the bottom of the page and send me an e-mail.

Regards,
Chris

Another thing that I hadn't thought of when I started posting is that some people don't have high speed internet and such and it takes time to download the pics. With this part of the forum, those folks don't have to wade through all the posts, they can just go to the Q&A part. I hate to see that guys are leaving the forum. I really value the veterans opinions here and the wealth of knowledge is second to none. Hopefully things smooth out soon.

From 'Terms of Service'
"Remember, the bulletin board is basically about posting questions and answers. It is not a chat forum."

As one of the goals of this site is about questions and answers. If the addition of the Photo Sharing section enhances this goal, it would seem appropriate.

Thanks for posting that, Russell. I am intentionally not trying to run a chat service here.

I don't put the photo posting in the same category as chat because the pictures can inspire people to try new recipes and techniques. I see the value in them. From my perspective, it's really just a question of how to organize all of this content online.

Chris

regarding dial-up: broadband availability and speed are increasing exponentially. Some of us are ahead of the curve, but the rest are catching up quickly.

What percentage of US households had computers in 1989? 95? 2000? Online access wasn't huge in 98. IIRC, back in 2000 <50% US households had internet.

I was 'online' in 89. Back then (until ~96/97) your plan consisted of hours kind of like a cell phone bill. I've sub'd to every ISP out there. Today it's cable modem, have a HTPC & stream high def movies & tv. & I'm not that bright.

The times they are a changin. Seriously, do you know of anyone who has dial-up anymore? I mean you can't call them when they're on the internet? I doubt it.

JMHO & rambling thoughts.

for the record, this is one of 2 websites that I haunt daily. It's one of my favs for sure.

Your site snared me a few years ago with your cooking topics & detailed instructions.

I really appreciate the skill that was first taught to me by Chris, & helped honed by the many others. I didn't jump into the forum for at least a year or 3 after the first time I bookmarked tvwb.

So this is a big thanks Chris, I'll defer to your wisdom.

Living in the country, where DSL and/or cable (RoadRunner) is not available and chances are, it never will be, one is left with dial-up or satellite.
Sat is not cheap... I've done dial-up (15 bucks a month) for years, switched to Cricket (40 per month) and that bombed (ended up slower than dial-up)
then went to verizon (69 bucks a month) and cancelled after one week after i used half my alotted monthly service in 5 days...
back to cricket with E X T R E M E L Y s l o w speed until I find (and found) a new provider.
So... after typing all of that, for me to view photos on this computer can take a while.
ImageShack gives me the biggest problem, the slowest downloads..

Jim, you're one of the most active poster & commentor on pics!

hopefully 4G / WiMax becomes more widely available in your area.

I've been away for a bit (work thingy), so didn't see this until today. I get the rationale, and I don't have a problem with it. While posts of pics are definitely inspiring for me, I can also see how more straightforward question/answer discussions would be more in line with Chris' intent. I'll view and post cook pics in the new section and be thankful we have this forum!

well, NOW i have high-speed internet from these guys... and i'll tell ya, it is sooooooooooo fricken fast,
i can not click on something, get up and go get a beer and return and wait 2 more minutes... cuz what i click on NOW popsUP INSTANTLY!
And photos in the posts come up in seconds! AMAZING!
This service is even faster than what Inc. has at the office...
And the cost is only 39.99 per month.
you cannot beat that with a stick!
