Michele, pack it up and send it to me... i'll dispose of this nasty germ for you.

Naw, just scrape out what you can, hose it out while using a stiff brush and fire it up to burn off what it will.
You're OK....
it's almost like scraping your knee for the first time and asking Mom if the skin will come back...

Since the WSM is coated with porcelain, anything that grows on it can be removed - just like going to the dentist for a 6-month cleaning.

Mold inside the WSM looks a lot worse than it really is. To avoid having it grow again in the future, be sure you empty the water pan after you cook (if you use water). Also, if you leave your WSM outside (as I do), note that the WSM cover is not waterproof. Water can leak in through the seams during a rain, and will then run down the lid and inside, where it will pool in the bottom. This can also lead to mold. Placing a trash bag over the WSM before you put the cover on will keep this from happening. Or, you can seal the cover seams with a seam sealer designed for tents.

Will do the trash bag going forward. I don't want to clean something this nasty again!!
Thanks!!

I have used the seam sealer and also flipped the middle section with good results.
Lots of rain and humidity in South Florida and the 1989 model I have is still going strong. Only some rust in the lip of the lid and some corroded screws.
