I may actually cry LOL , I have so many grills and smokers I rarely use the 26 anymore. With just me the wife and daughter in the house now I can cook all we need on my trusty 18”, my son in another state has a growing family and lots of friends that come over.

So on the 23rd I’m loading it up and giving it a new home where it will actually be used, gunna miss this grill, but the best part is I get to teach him how to use it and enjoy it when I visit.

I had one, got it NIB for $175. I really liked it but only used it a few times a year. There was not enough room on the patio so I ended up selling it. It took all of 5 minutes to sell for the same price I paid for it. It's great that you were able to give it to your son, should be a real good reason to visit.

I think the sweet spot for the 26 is as a one arrow quiver.

Its obviously a great grill, but also very good for smoking and indirect. That extra space is key when a good portion of the grate is given over to the coals.

But if you also have a WSM, 18 and/or 22 kettles, gasser, then the 26 is just there for when you need to cook for a huge crowd on occasion. Which you can also do (when needed) by using two of your other grills.

But if you could only have one grill, a 26 might be the one. Especially if it came as a performer.

That was what I did on it, I would do a brisket or ribs low and slow. I even put a smoke hole in the front for my pitmasters IQ. But since then I bought a 22 WSM and a 14 WSM, I also have a 18” kettle I use all the time. The 26 will go to good use I would rather him enjoy it now, he would inherit it anyways some day

Great decision to pass it on and to pass on your knowledge!
I made him promise he would use it, he is all into it and watching videos about kettle cooking. He will soon realize what a great kettle the 26 is, it’s a very versatile cooker.

Would I go out and buy another tomorrow? No... mainly because it’s way too big for my needs now. I actually like pushing the limits of smaller cookers.

But for him it will be perfect, I had fun with it ... yeah I paid like $400 for it OTD with a cover etc. But it’s staying in the family instead of taking a 50% loss on Craigslist

Bought my son a performer so I didn't have to bring mine to his house, then I did the same with a pellet smoker lol

That must be great to share barbecue with a son.

I have two daughters , no sons. And neither of my daughters ever gave a flip about what I was doing on the patio. And their husbands/boy friends did not either.

At least it's staying in the family!

I have two young daughters, 3 and 5. They love helping me get the charcoal going and "making the fire". Hope they will be interested in grilling when they are a little older, we'll see.

Love my 26"er.

My 11 year old daughter hasn't shown much interest in grilling. She does love to bake though and she is getting her very own mint colored Kitchen Aid mixer for Christmas. I'm hoping she will branch out and want to learn to grill one day. She does have fun with the "Bug-A-Salt" while I am cooking outside.
